Vapor barriers protect homes by preventing water vapor from escaping the building envelope. Leaking vapor barriers can lead to condensation in the walls and cause the wood to rot. In Canada, the Canadian General Standards Board (CGSB) developed a standard for greatly improved vapor barriers required for the building code of new home construction.
This film made to meet the requirements of CAN/CGSB-51.34-M86 has clearly defined and tested properties achieved with high-quality ingredients and careful manufacturing and testing. CGSB film also needs to contain stabilizers designed to ensure that the film will last the lifetime of the house.
